THS sweeps spring tournament

TORRINGTON  – The Torrington High School golf team hit the links for only the second time this spring on Friday at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course.

The Blazer boys picked up the team title by 10 strokes over Cheyenne Central.

As a team, Torrington shot a 346. The Central Indians were second with 356, while Wheatland was third with 362.

Freshmen Braeden Reid and Caleb Kelly carried the Blazers with a round of 82 to finish tied for third. Gage Gibson was eighth with an 86, while Mason Wilkes tied for 18th, shooting a 96. Alex Waring shot a 101.

In the boys’ junior varsity division, Conner Cottrell shot a 102, while Preston Telford shot a 104. Ty Albaugh had a 107. Taylor Swartwood and Jeremiah Haffner shot 118 and 145, respectively.

In the girls’ divison, the Lady Blazers also picked up a team win, shooting 320. Natrona County was second with 336, while Green River was third with 338.

Sophomores Kaleigh Waymire and Madyson Banister led the team with a pair of top five finishes. Waymire shot a 98 to finish in a tie for second, while Banister shot a 99 to place fifth. Freshman Grace Kelly shot a 110 to finish eighth in her first tournament.

Sarah Birdsall shot a 118, while Zoe Hoff had a 121. Kaylee Pittman added a 123, while Madison Gibson shot a 136.

Torrington was back in action on Tuesday, May 2 in Casper. The Blazers and Lady Blazers wrap up the spring season on Friday, May 12 in Wheatland.
