TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Blazers picked up their second straight victory Tuesday night against the Newcastle Dogies.

“I think we played well as a team,” THS coach Chelsi Jackson said.

The Lady Blazers rolled to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-8 win over the visitors.

Newcastle kept things close in the first set, but Torrington scored early and often over the final two sets.

“They had a confidence boost after the first set,” Jackson said.

In the win, Torrington managed to try some new things offensively and defensively, as well as serving, and it also allowed Jackson to get some younger players some valuable varsity experience.

THS senior Brielle Bivens and sophomore Michaela Moorehouse led the Lady Blazers with five kills, while freshman Avery West added four.

Sophomore Morgan Bates served up six aces, while junior Dani Masterson added three.

Defensively, Bivens and sophomore Kameron Stitt tallied a team-high 11 digs, while Bivens also had four blocks. Senior Nakayln Garner recorded three.

The Lady Blazers (4-7 overall and 1-0 in the 3A Southeast) will host Rawlins (15-3 and 2-0) at 5 p.m. Friday at Willi Gym.
