THERMOPOLIS – The Torrington High School volleyball season came to a close one game shy of qualifying for the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament.
For the weekend, the Lady Blazers went 1-2, seeing their season end in the consolation semifinals at the hands of the Newcastle Lady Dogies.
Torrington opened the weekend as the No. 3 seed from the Southeast Quadrant, facing the Northeast Quadrant’s No. 2 seeded Douglas Lady Bearcats.
The Lady Bearcats swept Torrington, 25-23, 25-9, 25-21 on Friday afternoon.
The next day, the Lady Blazers returned to the court, squaring off against the host Thermopolis Lady Bobcats in an elimination game.
Torrington scored a 25-22, 25-9, 25-18 sweep over the Lady Bobcats to keep its state tournament hopes alive.
A few hours later, Torrington’s season ended with a 3-1 loss to Newcastle.
The Lady Blazers won the first set, 25-19, but the Lady Dogies rattled off three straight set wins 25-18, 25-17, 29-27 to punch their tickets to the state tournament.
Torrington ends 2021 with a 7-20 record.
