THS hosts Wiseman Invite

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Trailblazer girls and boys track teams took to the home track Friday, hosting the Wiseman Invite, where the boys tied for fourth and the girls took fifth.

Bryan Lemmon was the lone Blazer individual to take first, and he did it twice. He snagged the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.64 seconds. The junior also finished first in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 3 inches. Casey Britton joined Lemmon in the high jump, taking eighth with a 5-foot, 9-inch effort.

Also in the field events, Cade Schwartzkopf finished second in the pole vault after clearing 11 feet, 7 inches.

Torrington had another strong showing in the throwing events as well. Nathaniel Woodruff paced the Blazers in the shot put, taking second with a throw of 50 feet, 4.25 inches. Corbin Harris was not far behind with a third-place finish, recording a put of 47 feet, 7.5 inches. Jacob Wamboldt made it back-to-back-to-back for the Blazers, taking fourth with a 47-foot, 2-inch effort.

Harris stepped to the lead for the Blazers in the discus event, taking fifth with a throw of 122 feet, 9 inches. Wamboldt took sixth, clearing 118 feet, 9 inches.

Back on the track, Lemmon was a part of another first-place finish. He was joined by Bo Moorehouse, Matthew Garcia and Aaron Borger for the 1600-meter sprint medley, finishing in the top spot with a time of 3:44.97.

Torrington’s 3200-meter relay took third, with Garcia, Borger, Pake Haun and Cameron Juma combining to finish in 8:39.50. Juma was joined by Kevin Parish, Nick Sherbeyn and Brett Posten for the 1600-meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 3:44.57. Lemmon, Moorehouse, Parish and Posten linked up for the 400-meter relay, clocking a time of 45.46 seconds for fifth.

Borger picked up a third-place finish in the 800, turning in a time of 2:09.32.

Moving to the shorter distances, Moorehouse placed in the top-eight twice, securing fifth in the 400 (53.74 seconds) and seventh in the 200 (24.30 seconds). Parish also placed in the 400, earning seventh with a time of 54.17 seconds.

Rounding out the placers, Thomas Heron took eighth in the 300-meter hurdles, turning a time of 49.29 seconds to take eighth.

The Blazer boys notched 93 points on the day, which tied Gering, Neb. for fourth. Cheyenne East took the team title with 156 points, edging out Laramie’s 147 points. Cheyenne Central rounded out the top-three teams with 123 points.

Girls

The Lady Blazers excelled in the relays, spearheaded by the 1600-meter sprint medley team of Onalise Albaugh, Katie Wiford, Latosha Wiford and Sera Glass that finished in 4:33.98 to take second.

In the 1600-meter relay, Katie Wiford was joined by Adia Sherbeyn and Emily and HeLena McGaugh, with the team taking third with a time of 4:30.98. HeLena McGaugh, Latosha Wiford, Samantha Hill and Albaugh linked up for the 400-meter relay, taking third with a time of 52.47 seconds.

Glass had the best individual finish Friday, taking third in the 800 with a time of 2:35.81. Sherbeyn was not far behind, clocking a time of 2:40.40 to earn fifth. Staying in the middle distances, Latosha Wiford snagged fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:04.65.

Brittany Schlager turned in a time of 14:20.57 in the 3200, snagging sixth. Rounding out the top track performances, HeLena McGaugh took eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.89 seconds.

Nakalyn Garner continued her solid season in pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 7 inches to take fourth.

Hill placed in two jumping events on top of being a member of Torrington’s 400-meter relay team. She cleared 14 feet, 7.5 inches in the long jump, earning sixth. Her 30-foot, 11-inch effort in the triple jump put her in the eighth slot.

As a team, Torrington racked up 48 points to finish fifth, just ahead of Cheyenne South’s 42.5 points. Cheyenne Central ran away with the girls team title, racking up 240 points. Laramie took second, with 165.5 points, while Gering, Neb. snagged third with 83 points.

The Torrington track teams return to action Friday and Saturday in Douglas for the 3A East Regional Invitational.
