WHEATLAND – The Torrington High School golf team opened the season at the Wheatland Invite with Caleigh Essert and Jordan Malm leading the way for the Blazers.

Essert, a senior, dominated the girls’ division with a two-day total of 143.

Her two rounds were 43 strokes better than second place. Taylen Sewell, of Cheyenne Central, was second with 186.

Laura Halley was the only other Lady Blazer in the top 10, finishing sixth with a 205. Jade Reinhardt was 11th with a 226, while Jenna Kaufamn was 13th with a 234.

As a team, the Torrington girls edged Cheyenne Central by five strokes, 574-579.

In the boys’ division, Malm, a senior, finished one stroke behind Cheyenne Central’s duo of Ethan Cates and Caden Jackson with a 162.

Thomas Herran was the only other Blazer on the course. He finished 30th with a 269.

Since there were only two boys, the Blazers didn’t record a team score. Cheyenne Central took home the team title with a 677, while Douglas was second and Laramie third.

The Torrington golf teams are back in action at the Casper Invite, Aug. 16-17.
