THS girls third, boys fourth at Wiseman

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School track and field teams hosted the annual Wiseman Invite, the final meet before the 3A East Regionals for the Blazer teams.

The Lady Blazers finished third, while the boys’ team finished fourth. Both team placings were the highest among 3A teams at the meet.

Cheyenne Central swept the team title. The Lady Indians won the girls’ team title scoring 169.5 points. Cheyenne East was second with 126.5. The Lady Blazers placed third with 114.5.

In the boys’ division, Central won with 173.5 points, while East was second with 131 points. Laramie was third with 104.5 points, and Torrington was fourth with 85.

As a team, Torrington picked up four wins on the day – one by the girls’ team and three by the boys’ team.

Senior Reece Halley picked up the Lady Blazers’ lone win of the day. Her toss of 128 feet, 10 inches won the event as Torrington swept the top three spots in the event. Sierra Allen was second at 123-6, while Emma Johnson was third at 101-10. Johnson was also seventh in shot put, while Allen was eighth.

The Lady Blazers also had several other runner-up finishes. Tyne Stokes was second in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 1.35 seconds. The 4x400 team of Jaycee Hurley, Marissa Moorehouse, Alyssa Wondercheck and Stokes also finished second in 4:17.72, while Moorehouse was second in long jump at 16-10.75. Allison Brummell was second in triple jump at 34-9.25.

Hurley (fifth in the 100-meter dash, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the 300-meter hurdles), Moorehouse (eighth in the 200-meter dash, third in the 400-meter dash), Ada Merrigan (sixth in the 800-meter run), the sprint medley relay team of Autumn Harris, Olive Osmera, Wondercheck and Merrigan finished third, the 4x100 relay team of Halley, Harris, Osmera and Wondercheck finished fourth, Brummell (fifth in high jump, fifth in long jump), Wondercheck (third in long jump), Mattie Jones (pole vault), Teryn Stokes (fifth in shot put) also scored team points for the Lady Blazers at the Wiseman Invite.

In the boys’ division, Aydan Loya, Benjamin Fuller and Ryan Baker picked up wins for the Blazers.

Loya won the 800-meter run in 2:04.42, while Fuller won long jump with a leap of 21-7.25. Baker won discus with a throw of 155 feet.

The Blazer boys also had a pair of runner-up finishes. Both were by Brendan Flock in the 100-meter dash in 11.18 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 50.37 seconds. Flock also finished third in the 200-meter dash in 22.9 seconds.

Fuller (eighth in the 100-meter dash), Weston Cronk (eighth in the 800-meter run, eighth in the 1,600-meter run), Loya (third in the 1,600-meter run), Barrett Eichenberger (seventh in the 110-meter hurdles), Evan Hellus (third in the triple jump), Tyler Bennick (third in discus, third in shot put), Brayden Frazier (sixth in shot put) Trey Parriott (eighth in shot put) also scored team points for Torrington.

The Wiseman Invite was the final event of the regular season for the Blazers. They now turn their attention to the 3A East Regional Track Meet on Friday and Saturday in Newcastle.

Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
