THS girls fifth, boys seventh at regional cross country

DOUGLAS – The Torrington High School cross country team returned to running trails Friday afternoon at the Douglas Country Club for the annual 3A East Regional Cross County Meet.

The Lady Blazers finished fifth, while the boys placed seventh.

Sera Glass led the THS girls with a seventh-place finish in 21 minutes, 30.91 seconds. Cora Frederick placed 21st in 23:16.32, while Kelci Lovercheck finished 24th in 23:27.97. Jenna Kaufman came home 34th in 24:23.09, while Jennifer Manus placed 40th in 25:11.40.

Rawlins’ Sydney Thorvaldson won the individual regional title in 18:14.68, but it was the Buffalo Lady Bison who took home the team title with 40 points. Worland was second with 63, while Pine Bluffs was third with 69.  Rawlins finished fourth with 88, and Torrington placed fifth with 119.

In the boys’ division, Jacob Polkowske led the Blazers with a 24th-place finish in 19:46.43. Pake Haun was 27th in 19:53.60. Kevin Parish was 38th in 20:27.64, while Tristan Kingsley was 44th in 20:59.38. Kyland Fuller placed 47th in 21:34.54.

Worland’s Porter Harman won the individual championship in 17:02.19, leading the Warriors to the team title. Worland won the meet in 49 points, while Newcastle was second with 63, while Douglas was third with 65. Torrington was seventh with 176.

The Torrington runners will wrap up the season Saturday, Oct. 20 at the 2018 Wyoming State Cross Country Meet in Sheridan. The meet will be held at the Sheridan V.A. Hospital Grounds.

The 3A girls will fire off the starting line at 11:45 a.m., while the 3A boys will be the final race of the day at 1:15 p.m.
