THS girls fall to Newcastle, Douglas

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School girls’ soccer team dropped two more 3A East Conference matches over the weekend to Newcastle and Douglas.

The Lady Blazers lost the two matches by a combined score of 13-0.

On Thursday, Torrington headed north to face the Newcastle Lady Dogies. The Lady Blazers were handed a 6-0 loss.

The next day, the team returned home where the Douglas Lady Bearcats pulled away in the second half for a 7-0 win over Torrington.

The Lady Blazers held Douglas off the scoreboard until the 26th minute of the match. The visiting Lady Bearcats added one more goal in the first half in the 35th minute.

Leading 2-0 at halftime, Douglas got the scoring going early in the second half.

The Lady Bearcats got the first of its five second-half goals in the 42nd minute. Douglas also found the back of the net in the 55th, 61st, 62nd and 66th minutes to complete the shutout.

The Lady Blazers were scheduled to be back in action on Friday, April 29 in Buffalo, but the match was postponed to Tuesday, May 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
