BUFFALO – In each half over the weekend, the coaching staff for the Torrington High School girls’ soccer team saw improvement.

On Friday, the Lady Blazers fell 12-0 to the No. 5-ranked Worland Lady Warriors.

“We started slow against Worland,” THS coach Dave Cummings said. “The second half, we played better.”

On Saturday, Torrington fell to the No. 3-ranked Buffalo Lady Bison, 6-0.

“We played much better in the first half against Buffalo,” Cummings said. (Coach Kevin Derby and I) were pleased how each half, they continued to improve.”

Against Buffalo, the Lady Blazers went nearly 35 minutes without giving up a goal, as well as seeing some sustained offense.

“Overall, I’m very pleased with their progress,” Cummings said. “Obviously, I wish we were coming along a little faster, but they are improving and doing everything we ask of them.”

The Lady Blazers (0-4 overall and 0-3 in the 3A East) return home this week to face Newcastle (2-3 and 1-2) on Thursday.

“We are continuing to watch girls improve,” Cummings said. “We’ve made a couple of adjustments as coaches that seem to be giving them a better opportunity. We are going to continue to look for those types of things we can do to help this young team out.

“Newcastle, in particular, is going to be a key game for us,” Cummings added. “If we can start finding the back of the net, that’s the one thing really holding us up right now.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
