THS fifth, sixth at Twilight meet

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Torrington High School track and field teams had a last-minute schedule change. They were originally scheduled to compete in Douglas but ended up at the Scottsbluff’s Twilight Invitational on Friday instead with seven other teams from southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle.

Torrington senior Cody Pierce picked up the team’s lone win of the day.

His time of 46.62 seconds won the 300-meter hurdles.

The Blazers also had multiple second-place finishes, including sophomore Ryan Baker who finished second in discus with a throw of 127 feet, 8 1/2 inches, beating out senior teammate Rave Rising, who placed third at 125-11. Freshman Brayden Frazier finished 10th with a toss of 96-1 1/2.

Senior Aidan Hull also scored a second-place finish in high jump, clearing 6-2. Bryant DeMott cleared 5-7 to finish seventh. DeMott also finished third in pole vault at 10-8.

In the relay races, the 4x100 team of DeMott, Jayden Schlagel, Brendan Flock and Pierce finished fifth in 46.62 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Schlagel, Aydan Loya, Timothy Randolph and DeMott placed sixth in 3 minutes, 54.03 seconds.

Flock also medaled in the dashes, finishing fifth in the 200-meter dash in 24.01 and seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.88 seconds.

In the distance events, Loya finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:10, while junior Weston Cronk finished eighth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:54.52. Cronk also placed ninth in the mile in 5:09.41.

As a team, the Blazers finished fifth, scoring 47 points. Scottsbluff won the team title with 122 points, edging Cheyenne Central who placed second with 121. Cheyenne East was third with 97.

In the girls’ division, junior Sierra Allen led the team with a second-place finish in discus with a throw of 101-10. Junior Emma Johnson was fourth at 87-10 1/2.

Allen also finished sixth in shot put at a distance of 30-10 1/2, while Johnson was eighth at 29-8 1/4.

In other field events, Mattie Jones finished fourth in pole vault at 8-2, while Gabrielle David placed ninth at 7-2.

In the middle distance events, senior Sera Glass finished third in both the 400-meter dash in 1:03.12 and the 800-meter run in 2:30.87.

In the dashes, freshman Alyssa Wondercheck finished fourth in the 100 in 13.49 seconds, while Hailey Boslau placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.23, edging out teammate Marissa Moorehouse, who finished sixth in 28.31.

In the relay races, the 4x100 team of Boslau, Autumn Harris, Kyndra Wiford and Wondercheck placed eighth in 55.53 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Boslau, Wondercheck, Glass and Moorehouse was seventh in 4:33.63.

In hurdles, Reece Halley pre-qualified for state in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.81 seconds to place fifth. Halley also finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 54.02, while Wiford placed 12th in 56.4.

The Lady Blazers finished sixth with 38 points. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 119 points, while Laramie was second with 103. Scottsbluff was third with 84.

The Torrington track and field teams head to Buffalo for the Buffalo Twilight Invite on Friday, April 30.
