DOUGLAS – Ty Albaugh and Barrett Eichenberger paced the Torrington High School at the annual Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament hosted by Douglas High School over the weekend.
Albaugh finished third at 113 pounds, while Eichenberger was sixth at 126 pounds.
Albaugh went 4-1 on the weekend with a pair of pins to reach the semifinal where he lost his only match of the two-day tournament. Albaugh bounced back with a 13-10 decision victory over Campbell County’s Tayce Lake to reach the third-place match.
In the final match, Albaugh picked up a medical forfeit win over Lander’s Coaltyn Laird.
Meanwhile Eichenberger had an opening round bye before picking up a second-period fall in the second round and a 7-0 decision win to reach the semifinal round.
Eichenberger was pinned in the semifinals and lost 5-1 in the consolation semifinals to move him into the fifth-place match.
Eichenberger was pinned late in the first period by Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Wyatt Sylvester to finish sixth.
There were only two other Blazers to pick up wins on the weekend in the varsity portion of the tournament.
Tyler Nicolay (106 pounds) went 1-2, while Bryce Hager (170) went 2-2 after picking up a pair of falls to reach the quarterfinal round before losing his next two matches.
As a team, the Blazers scored 43 points to finish tied for 17th in the 29-team tournament.
Woodard, Sandusky win JV weight classes
In the junior varsity division, Brendan Woodard and Colby Sandusky won their respective weight divisions.
Woodard won the 145-pound bracket with three pins and a pair of decision wins, while Sandusky topped the 138-pound class with four falls and an 8-3 decision win over teammate Griffin Wolfe to win the bracket.
Wolfe was the only other JV wrestler to place, finishing second, ending the weekend with a 3-1 record.
Hunter Massie (138) also picked up wins for the JV team, finishing 3-2.
Torrington falls to Scottsbluff
The Blazers opened the 2023 portion of the schedule with a 33-22 loss to Scottsbluff on Thursday, Jan. 5.
Nicolay and Albaugh gave Torrington a 12-0 lead, but the Blazers only won two additional matches for the rest of the match. Reece Grubbs and JR Ruiz also picked up wins for the Blazers.
Torrington hosts the Blazer Duals on Saturday, Jan. 14. Action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
