THS athletes compete in T-Town Qualifier, Wyoming Track Classic

TORRINGTON – It was a busy day for some Torrington High School track and field team members with two meets in two towns on Friday.

Members of the Blazers team competed in both the T-Town Qualifier and the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper.

At the Torrington meet, the Blazers picked up three wins on the day.

Zab Munoz won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 14.18 seconds, leading a two other Blazers who took part in the race. Jorey Asmus was third in 2:21.91 and Tyler Nicolay was fourth in 2:23.05.

The other two wins came in the throwing events as Trey Parriott won shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 8 inches. Brayden Frazier was the long other Blazer to score team points with a third-place finish in 42-2.

In discus, Ryan Baker picked up the win with a throw of 129-5. Parriott was second at 121-2, while Frazier was fifth at 116-11.

In other field events Bryant DeMott was second in pole vault, clearing 11 feet and was third in high jump at 5-6. Landre Greiman was fourth in long jump at 18-8.5, beating out teammate Landen Fuller, who placed fifth at 18-7.5. Greiman also came home fifth in the triple jump at 35-10.

In the other running events, Dylan Packard was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.65 seconds, while Fuller was sixth. Packard was third in the 200-meter dash in 24.39 seconds, while Fuller was fourth in 24.77 seconds.

In hurdles, Barrett Eichenberger was sixth in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, while the 4x800 relay team of Asmus, Brady Dagen, Munoz and Nicolay was second in 9:45.10.

The boys’ team won the team title with 104.5 points. Burns was second with 103.33 points.

In the girls’ divisions, the Lady Blazers won four events, along with several runner-up finishes.

Julie Le Nezet won the 200-meter dash in 27.65 seconds and finsihed third in the 100-meter dash, while Natalie Long won the 800-meter run in 2:38.51. Tiffany Krueger was fifth in the 800. Callie Taylor won the 3,200-meter run in 13:27.69, while Teryn Stokes won shot put with a throw of 34-11.25.

Amberly Froerer finished second in the mile in 6:13.75, while Long placed second in pole vault at 7-6. Trishell Pontarolo was second in long jump at 15-11 and second in triple jump at 33-2. Le Nezet was fourth in the long jump.

The Lady Blazers were third in the final team standings with 82 points. Southeast won the team title with 116 points, while Lingle-Fort Laramie was second with 93.5 points.

Wyoming Track Classic

The annual Wyoming Track Classic took place at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper on Friday.

It’s an invitational only event and athletes have to rank in to the top eight in the state regardless of classification. Torrington took eight competitors and came away with two wins on the day.

Brooklyn Asmus won the 200-meter dash in 25.48 seconds, while Brendan Flock on the 200-meter dash in 21.95 seconds.

Asmus and Flock also finished second in the 100-meter dash.

Alyssa Wondercheck placed runner-up in long jump with a leap of 17-2.75. Marissa Moorehouse finished seventh in both the 400-meter dash and in the triple jump. In the 100-meter hurdles, Natalie Hawes came home seventh.

In the boys’ division, Aydan Loya placed runner-up in the 800-meter run in 1:57.62, while Benjamin Fuller was fifth in the long jump. Ty Bennick placed in both discus and shot put. He finished fourth in shot with a toss of 51-0.75 and eighth in discus at 126-11.

Torrington hosts the Wiseman Invite on Friday.
