Three Blazers reach podium

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Torrington Trailblazers had three top-two finishes Wednesday at the prestigious Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff, propelling the boys to seventh-place and girls to place 15th.

Bryan Lemmon had a solid performance on the track, picking up second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.27 seconds. Also on the track, Aaron Borger finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:05.93. Pake Haun finished the 3200 in 11:10.89, earning seventh.

Borger was on Torrington’s 3200-meter relay team, which finished second. Borger was joined by Matthew Garcia, Cameron Juma and Josh Posten and the foursome finished in 8:32.52. Lemmon was joined by Bo Moorehouse, Brett Posten and Kevin Parish for the 400-meter relay, finishing eighth with a time of 45.85 seconds.

In the field events, Jacob Wamboldt turned in a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 47-foot, 3-inch effort. Nathaniel Woodruff was not far behind with his throw of 45 feet, 5 inches, earning sixth. Corbin Harris took eighth in the event with a put of 44 feet, 3.5 inches. Woodruff snagged eighth in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 4 inches. Lemmon rounded out the field competitors, taking ninth in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 10 inches.

The Blazers amassed 33 points to snag seventh, edging out Alliance, Neb., with 27.5 points. Scottsbluff won the boys race with 131 points, with Sidney, Neb. (77) and Gering, Neb. (58.5) rounding out the top-three.

For the Lady Blazers, Nakalyn Garner snagged a second-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet, which betters the school-record mark of 9 feet, 10 inches she set last week. Also in the field events, Samantha Hill took 12th in the long jump after clearing 14 feet, 3.5 inches.

On the track, Latosha Wiford snagged the fourth place in the 400 with a time of 1:04.57. Wiford was the anchor leg on Torrington’s 400-meter relay team where she, along with Hill, Renee Cline and HeLena McGaugh finished sixth with a time of 53.17 seconds.

In the girls team race, Torrington notched 15 points on the day to finish 15th. Four points separated 11th and 15th. Scottsbluff’s girls won the team title with 99 points, followed by Sidney’s 78 points and Gering’s 76 points.

Select Blazers will compete in Casper on Friday for the Wyoming Track Classic. The whole team will head to the Kelly Walsh Invitational on Saturday.
