TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College sophomore golfer Brendan Thomas will stay close to home beginning next fall.

The Farmington, Utah native will continue his golf career and education at NCAA Division I Weber State University, located in Ogden, Utah.

“It’s close to home. I like my family and being around them, so it’ll be nice to be close to home. I’m excited about. It was great to come here, and it has helped me along the way,” Thomas said. “I’m thankful for EWC because I wouldn’t be able to go to Weber State without EWC.”

During his time at Eastern Wyoming College, Thomas has scored four tournament wins and eight top fives.

He picked up his four wins at Otero Junior College, Lamar Community College and Central Wyoming College as a freshman and shared a win with teammate Russel Sprecher at Lamar earlier this fall.

He also finished 36th individually at the NJCAA National Golf Championships as a freshman, helping lead the Lancers to its best team finish at the national tournament in school history with a 12th-place finish.

“As a team, we’ve worked really hard. It’s paid for us,” Thomas said. “It’s been a lot of fun, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m just really thankful for the people and the foundation here at EWC.”

Thomas is majoring in business administration and hopes to start his own business one day.

“Brendan has been a gift for this campus, this golf team and this community. He’s a heck of a golfer, but he’s one of the nicest young man I’ve ever met. He’s our team captain. I can rely on him. We have a lot of close conversations where I lean on him for advice. He’s a stud,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. “It helps he’s almost 22. He went on a mission for almost two years. He’s a little older and wiser. It shows.”
