Steven was born July 18, 1989, in Scottsbluff to Rick Teniente and Dana Salas. He attended Torrington and Scottsbluff schools, graduating in 2008. He entered the workforce after high school and became a skilled tire and lube technician. He had been employed with Peerless Tire in Scottsbluff as the tire tech manager. Steven also worked as a security guard for many Legion Combat Entertainment events in the area.

Steven was an avid football fan, with his favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. He also supported and followed the Colorado Rockies. Summer times he could be found at the lake, kicking back on the beach with friends and family. He was always the life of the party, bringing a smile or laugh to everyone.
