State track qualifying update: May 11

TORRINGTON – The time to prequalify for the state track meet has passed, with each school across the state heading to regionals this week, vying for more spots in the state meet in Casper.

Recently, the three schools competed against tough opponents at the prestigious Best in the West Classic and the Wyoming Track Classic. Torrington ran in the Kelly Walsh Invite, with the Cyclones and Doggers participating in action in Lusk. Last week, Southeast and L-FL competed at the SEWAC Invite, while the Blazers hosted the Wiseman Invitational.

Those who have not prequalified already still have a chance to make it to the state meet. The top-eight competitors and top-four relays in each event punch their ticket to the state meet.

Torrington

Aaron Borger already punched his ticket to state as a member of Torrington’s 3200-meter relay team, but he did it as an individual as well, prequalifying in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.96 at the Wyoming Track Classic.

Also on the track, Bryan Lemmon, Bo Moorehouse, Brett Posten and Kevin Parish linked up for the 400-meter relay at the Best in the West Classic, surpassing the prequalifying standard with a time of 45.85 seconds.

Jacob Wamboldt and Corbin Harris rounded out the recently prequalified athletes for the Blazer boys. Wamboldt prequalified in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 3 inches at the Wyoming Track Classic and Harris had a throw of 47 feet, 7.5 inches in the event at the Wiseman Invite.

For the Lady Blazers, Nakalyn Garner is the lone athlete to be prequalified individually, punching her ticket for the pole vault with a vault of 9 feet, 6 inches at the Okie Blanchard Invitational.

On the track, Samantha Hill, HeLena McGaugh, Renee Cline and Latosha Wiford linked up for the 400-meter relay in Scottsbluff, Neb., clocking a time of 53.17 seconds, which is better than the prequalifying mark. Onalise Albaugh was plugged into the equation in the place of Cline at the Wiseman Invitational and the new foursome also eclipsed the prequalifying standard, posting a time of 52.47 seconds.

Southeast

For the Cyclone boys, Chase Lovercheck, Brant Fullmer, Kaden Malm and Hayden Anderson were the only new prequalifiers, posting a time of 3:41.13 in the 1600-meter relay in Lusk on Saturday.

Outside of that relay team, Southeast had two already prequalified marks improved on. Lovercheck lowered his time in the 400 to 49.96 seconds in Glenrock. He, along with Malm and Brant and Brady Fullmer lowered their 1600-meter relay time again with a time of 3:31.16 at the Best in the West Classic.

On the track, Hailey Anderson punched her ticket for the state meet with a time of 1:02.75 in the 400 at the Best in the West Classic.

Discus was a strong event for the Lady Cyclones in Lusk. Kylie Carson (113 feet, 1 inch) and Candee Coxbill (109 feet, 4 inches) both earned their spot in the throwing ring at the state tournament in Casper. Ekwall also improved on her qualifying put, recording a throw of 36 feet, 7 inches at the SEWAC Invite.

Lingle-Fort Laramie

Ty Mueller splashed onto the scene in his first action of the spring, prequalifying in two events, both at the SEWAC Invite. He recorded a jump of 20 feet, 0.5 inches in the long jump and cleared 40 feet, 2.5 inches in the triple jump.

A 400-meter relay team for the Dogger boys eclipsed the prequalifying standard, with Cole Shepardson, Hayden Hill, Cooper Hill and Gaven Niles linking up to finish in 47.80 seconds in Lusk.

Kaelyn Riley added to the list of events which she has prequalified for with her efforts in the triple jump in Pine Bluffs. Her mark of 32 feet, 10.75 inches earned her a spot in another event in Casper. Adding to her prequalified list, Riley’s time of 1:01.82 in the 400 at the SEWAC Invite prequalified her in that event. She also dropped her 200 time to 27.20 seconds in Glenrock.
