MORRILL, Neb. – The Southeast High School track team had their first outdoor meet of the season this last weekend and a few of the athletes had a strong first showing.

After winning top eight spots in all but four events, the Lady Cyclones took home the first-place trophy at the annual Morrill Early Bird track meet. Earning those top spots were senior Shelby Ekwall (shot put and discus), sophomore Taylor Hanson (100-meter hurdles and 300m hurdles), junior Sasha Haines (300m hurdles, 100m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay), junior Kylee Llewellyn (4x400m relay), freshman Kaycee Kosmicki (1,600m and long Jump), sophomore Angie Logsdon (4x400m relay and triple jump), junior Tylar Stoddard (triple jump and 200m), freshman Hadley Leithead (discus), and junior Harper Boche (shot put and discus)

Taking home first place finishes were Ekwall with a shot put of 38 feet, 10.5 inches, Stoddard, who triple jumped 32 feet, 9 inches, and Kosmicki, who ran the 1,600m in a time of 5 minutes, 55.43 seconds.

The Lady Cyclones set an impressive mark with many competitors, but they will look to continue to improve this season.

On the boy’s side of things, there were not as many top finishers, but there were still some impressive performances.

Taking home top three places were seniors Dawson Mullock (long jump and high jump) and Austin Short (triple jump, 100m, 200m), junior Wyatt Gladson (400m) and sophomores William Knowlton (800m) and Kanon Tippets (800m).

Only one athlete took home first place for the boys and that was Short as he won the 100m dash in a time of 11.82 seconds and the 200m dash in a time of 24.31 seconds. Getting second place medals were Mullock with a long jump of 19 foot, 2.5 inches and a high jump of 5 feet, 6 inches.

The Cyclone track team looks to improve and continue some of its winning on Saturday, April 1, where they will travel to Bayard, Nebraska for the Bayard CD Invitational.
