YODER – The Southeast High School volleyball team defeated a pair of Class 2A teams in Wright and Glenrock over the weekend.
On Friday, it took four sets to defeat the Wright Lady Panthers on the road 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 26-24, 25-20).
Junior Brenna Herring led the Lady Cyclones with 11 kills and 18 assists. Senior Grace Desmond and junior Shelby Ekwall added six kills apiece. Junior Sydney Anderson recorded a team-high 29 digs, while senior Jordan Stoddard added 20.
The next day, Southeast returned home to sweep the Glenrock Lady Herders, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 30-28).
In the first two sets, the Lady Cyclones raced out to 7-1 leads.
In the first set, Glenrock battled back to tie the match at 12 apiece, but the Lady Herders never saw the lead. However, in the second set, it was all Southeast in the 13-point set win.
In the final set, the Lady Cyclones dug themselves an early deficit and never led until late in the set.
With Glenrock leading 24-20, Desmond tallied a kill, sparking a comeback.
It was the first of five straight points to give the Lady Cyclones a 25-24 lead, the first since 1-0 at the beginning of the set.
The remainder of the set went back and forth until a kill from Stoddard and an ace serve from sophomore Tylar Stoddard secured the sweep for the Lady Cyclones.
Jordan Stoddard led the team with 11 kills, to go along with six digs and two blocks. Anderson and Herring led the team with three blocks each, while Herring had seven kills, 15 assists and 12 digs.
Southeast (11-7) travels to Lingle to face the Lady Doggers at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Cyclones also travel to Upton for the Upton Jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 9.
