YODER – The Southeast girls’ basketball team swept the weekend with wins over the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets and the Niobrara County Lady Tigers.
On Friday, the Lady Cyclones used a big third quarter to move past the No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers, 36-29.
On a night when Southeast celebrated its seniors, the Lady Cyclones outscored Pine Bluffs 12-2 in the third frame to take a 26-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
Seniors Hailey Anderson and Kaci Schmick led the team with eight points each, while seniors Ellie Schmitt and Kaylie Carson added five each. Senior Macie Murphy grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, including five offensive boards.
The next day, Southeast fended off a late Lady Tiger run to defeat Niobrara County, 37-34.
The Lady Tigers outscored Southeast 16-6 over the final eight minutes to close up a 31-18 lead.
Anderson led all scorers with 21 points, while Schmitt added six. Schmitt also pulled down nine rebounds.
The Lady Cyclones (12-6 overall and 4-1 in the 2A Southeast Quadrant) will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Glenrock. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
