The Southeast Cyclones girls and boys track teams both fought through the elements at the Pine Bluffs Invitational on Thursday, combining to rack up 22 top-eight finishes, with both the Cyclones and Lady Cyclones finishing sixth.

Southeast boys and girls sixth

PINE BLUFFS – The Southeast Cyclones girls and boys track teams both fought through the elements at the Pine Bluffs Invitational on Thursday, combining to rack up 22 top-eight finishes, with both the Cyclones and Lady Cyclones finishing sixth.

Chase Lovercheck had an outstanding day, playing a part in four gold medals for the Cyclones. He snagged the top spot in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.89 seconds. He also stood atop the podium in both the 800 (2:07.33) and 1600 (4:59.85). The senior was the anchor of the Southeast 3200-meter relay team. He, along with Brady Fullmer, Brant Fullmer and Hayden Anderson turned in a time of 9:10.37 to finish first.

Brady Fullmer had a solid day as well. He finished one slot behind Lovercheck in the 400, taking second with a time of 54.97 seconds. Brant Fullmer was not too far behind, clocking 57.48 seconds to finish eighth. Anderson took sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:19.28.

In the shorter distances, D.J. Homer placed in two events. He snagged fourth in the 200 with a time of 26.30 seconds, while taking fifth in the 100, finishing in 13.03 seconds.

In addition to Southeast’s 3200-meter relay team, the Cyclones placed in the other two relays. Homer, Reece Robertson, Brady and Brant Fullmer posted a time of 49.32 seconds in the 400-meter relay to take fifth. Robertson and Homer were joined by Sawyer Anderson and Patrick Swank for the 1600-meter relay, finishing in 4:13.88 to take sixth.

As a team, the Cyclone boys picked up 68 points, just behind Saratoga’s 72 points and Garden County’s 71 points. Host Pine Bluffs won the team crown with 149 points, followed by Lusk (103) and Burns (94).

Like Lovercheck on the boys side, Lady Cyclone Hailey Anderson stood atop the podium multiple times. In the 200-meter dash, she turned in a time of 28.56 seconds to capture the top spot. In the 400, her time of 1:05.33 earned her first as well. Anderson picked up the second spot in the 800, turning in a time of 2:42.31.

Joining Anderson in the 800, Jaiden Hopkins snagged an eighth-place finish with a time of 3:00.35. Hopkins won the 3200 after posting a time of 14:02.01. Also in the two-mile, Kelci Lovercheck took fifth with a time of 14:43.94.

Also on the track, Kendall Haas finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.02 seconds. She carried on her placing to the field events, taking eighth in the long jump with a 13-foot, 1.25-inch effort.

In the throwing events, Candee Coxbill had the best finish, taking second in the discus with a throw of 100 feet, 7 inches. She also recorded a put of 30 feet, 11 inches in the shot put to take eighth. Morgan Ekwall had the top performance for Southeast in the shot put, taking third with a throw of 34 feet, 11 inches.

The Lady Cyclones finished sixth in the team standings with 62 points on the day. Host Pine Bluffs won the invitational with 107.5 points, edging out Burns, with 102. Lusk snagged the third spot with 90 points.

Following the Best in the West Classic on Tuesday after press time, the Cyclones are set to compete in the Wyoming Track Classic on Friday in Casper, followed by the Zowada Invitational in Lusk on Saturday.
