TORRINGTON – Sid “Bud” Rice passed away April l0, 2021 with his wife Phyllis at his side. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Valley View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Sid was born in Salina, Kan., to Bill and Helen Rice. He had three brothers: Kelly, Douglas and Stan in conjunction with his sisters by marriage and nieces and nephews. He attended schools in Idaho and Kansas. He graduated high school in Goodland, Kan. He worked in the telecommunications field for 44 and a half years in the Torrington/Scottsbluff region.

Sid’s forte was kids (as he could be himself), for which he entertained and nurtured. Many adults will never forget Uncle Sid. His “chicken routine” would leave you in stitches – both young and old.

On his serious side, he taught young kids’ Sunday School classes. After serving his country in the National Guard, he served in the American Legion. He served as Commander in the Legion, as well as flipping burgers, hot dogs and pancakes at local events. He was serving as Chaplain in the Hank Snow Chapter at the time of his death.

Sid mostly cared about “others,” but his personal time found him on a motorcycle or a golf club in his hand. His joy was his nieces, nephews, and family. He seemed to always leave you with something to think about. One of his favorite scriptures was Psalms 23: “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.”

Memorials can be made to the Lighthouse Ministries or Wyoming Cowboy Challenge Academy.
