LUSK – The Southeast Lady Cyclones played the top-ranked Lusk Lady Tigers even in three quarters, but a seven-point differential in the second proved to be the difference as the Lady Cyclones fell 51-44 Friday.

Southeast and Lusk both put up 14 points in the first quarter. In the second frame, the Lady Tigers poured in 14 points, while limiting the Lady Cyclones to seven points to go into intermission up 28-21. In the third, both teams scored 13 points, while the teams mirrored each other in the final quarter, putting up 10 each.

Ellie Schmitt notched a double-double on the night, pacing Southeast in both scoring, with 14 points, and rebounding, with 11 boards. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor. Hailey Anderson was not far behind in either category, pouring in 13 points and coming down with six boards.

Morgan Ekwall made a big contribution with her four assists on the night.

The charity stripe made a big difference in the Lady Cyclone loss. Southeast shot 9-of-18 at the free-throw line, while Lusk shot 7-of-12.

The loss drops the Lady Cyclones to 6-6 on the year, with an 0-1 record against conference opponents, which puts them fourth in the standings after the early portion of the conference schedule. Southeast hosted conference foe Burns on Tuesday after the press deadline and it hits the road Saturday to take on another 2A conference opponent in Glenrock, with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
