The Southeast Cyclones girls and boys track teams competed in Glenrock on Saturday for the SEWAC Invitational, with the Lady Cyclones finishing fourth and the Southeast boys taking fifth.

SE girls fourth, boys fifth in SEWAC

GLENROCK – The Southeast Cyclones girls and boys track teams competed in Glenrock on Saturday for the SEWAC Invitational, with the Lady Cyclones finishing fourth and the Southeast boys taking fifth.

Jaiden Hopkins had the top individual finish on the track, taking first the in 3200-meter run with a time of 13:51.80. joining her in the distance events, Kelci Lovercheck took third in the 1600, clocking a time of 6:28.63.

Hailey Anderson took the silver in the 200 with a time of 27.90 seconds, which she paired with a bronze in the 400, finishing in 1:02.99. Joycelynn Hottell joined Anderson in the 200, tying for eighth with a time of 30.00 seconds. Emma Short grabbed herself a bronze as well, taking third in the 100 with a time of 14.36 seconds.

Kendall Haas represented Southeast in both hurdle events. She snagged fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.66 seconds and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.50 seconds.

Anderson and Lovercheck were joined by Ellie Schmitt and Macie Murphy for the 1600-meter relay, with the foursome taking the crown with a time of 4:27.30. Lovercheck, Schmitt and Anderson linked up with Hopkins for the 3200-meter relay, finishing second with a time of 11:02.51. In the 400-meter relay, Hottell, Schmitt, Murphy and Short combined for a time of 55.77 seconds to take fifth.

Morgan Ekwall had the best finish among the field competitors for the Lady Cyclones, taking the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 7 inches. She also finished eighth in the discus with an 89-foot, 8-inch effort. Candee Coxbill paced Southeast in the discus, taking second with a throw of 107 feet. Kylie Carson was not far behind. Her throw of 100 feet, 1 inch earned her fourth.

Rounding out the Lady Cyclone places, Hottell snagged fourth in the long jump, clearing 13 feet, 8 inches. Sheela Flury snuck into the seventh slot with a 12-foot, 10.5-inch effort in the event.

Southeast amassed 84 points in the team standings to sit fourth. Pine Bluffs won the girls team title with 136 points, while Burns, with 114 points, and Lusk, with 93 points, rounded out the top-three teams.

Boys

Chase Lovercheck continued his dominance on the track with two first-place finishes as an individual. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.96 seconds, along with a win in the 800 (2:08.30).

Lovercheck was also on a SEWAC champion relay team. He was joined by Kaden Malm and Brady and Brant Fullmer for the 1600-meter relay, posting a time of 3:36.16 to get the win.

Malm had a third-place finish in the 100 on Saturday, clocking a time of 12.26 seconds. D.J. Homer picked up a seventh-place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.00 seconds. Brady Fullmer joined Lovercheck in the 400, taking home fourth with a time of 53.46 seconds.

Moving to the upper distances, Hayden Anderson competed in the 800, taking third with a time of 2:13.10. Patrick Swank snagged two bronzes as well, finishing third in both the 1600 (5:21.16) and the 3200 (12:06.10). Zander Ramirez also competed in the mile, taking sixth with a time of 5:40.70.

Anderson, Swank and Ramirez were joined by Sawyer Anderson for the 3200-meter relay, taking third with a time of 10:29.38. Brant Fullmer, Hayden Anderson, Sawyer Anderson and Reese Robertson linked up for the 1600-meter sprint medley, clocking a time of 3:57.41 to earn fourth.

Homer had the best finish in the field events, taking fourth in the triple jump after clearing 37 feet, 6.25 inches. Greg Logsdon was not far behind, taking seventh in the event with a 36-foot, 10.25-inch effort.

As a team, the Cyclones finished with 73 points to take fifth, just one point behind Lusk’s 74. Pine Bluffs won the boys title with 130 points, followed by Glenrock, with 112 points, and Burns, with 101 points.

The Southeast girls and boys track teams return to action on Friday and Saturday for the 2A East Regional Invitational in Torrington.
