LONE TREE CANYON – A Celebration of Life for Scott David Elder, 68, will be held in Lone Tree Canyon in May 2023.

On Dec. 12, 2022, Scott entered into rest peacefully at home, with his wife by his side, after a hard and courageous battle with cancer. Donations in Scott’s memory may be made to Kindness Ranch at Hartville or Wounded Warrior Project. 

Scott was born May 15, 1954 in Riverton to Irwin and Margret “Billie” Elder who raised him and his two brothers, Mike and Mark, in Lander.

After graduating from Lander Valley High School in 1972, he married his first wife. Together they had a daughter, Brenda. He joined the Army and served two years. He was proud to have served his country.

In 1978, he moved to Torrington, where he met Barbara Dowers in October and they were married on Dec. 28, 1978 in Lone Tree Canyon on the cabin steps. Scott helped raise Barb’s son, Jason. Many years he was united with his daughter, Amanda.

Scott worked as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies, mainly in the state of Wyoming. He retired from Goshen County Road and Bridge at the age of sixty-two. 

Scott’s many interests included hunting, fishing, camping, gunsmithing and wood carving. He enjoyed backpacking in the Shoshone National Forest, trail riding in his Can Am and motorcycle trips on his Harley all with his wife Barb. Scott especially enjoyed gathering with family and friends. Many memories were made to be cherished. Scott also loved animals, especially dogs.

Scott is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Barbara Ann Elder; his brothers Michael Elder and Mark (Dixie) Elder; his daughter Amanda McAlister; and three grandchildren, Brayden (Brittany) Ratliff, Bryce and Karah; his daughter Brenda (Danny) Hoover and four grandchildren, Chan Toniea (Ezequiel), Annicka (Dayja) Vu, Emily and Akayla; his son Jason Moore; and eight great-grandchildren; father-in-law Hugh Dowers and sisters-in-law Gwen Dowers and Peggy Dowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Rosie Dowers.
