GOSHEN COUNTY – Tuesday’s Goshen County School District (GCSD) No. 1 board of trustees meeting featured a full table for the first time since Jan. 9, when Linda Kessler and Dr. Robert Byrd resigned. Kessler served 31 years, and Byrd, two.
The board began calling for applications immediately, and after a series of interviews last month, officially appointed Heather Saul and Ryan Clayton to the open seats this week.
This article will focus on Saul, with a future piece planned on Clayton.

Saul, a Lingle resident, works as emergency response coordinator for Goshen County Public Health in Torrington. She is also a Sergeant First Class in the Wyoming National Guard.
Saul is married to husband, David, and has three daughters: Anyssa, who is attending Eastern Wyoming College; Kelcie, a Lingle-Fort Laramie (L–FL) High School sophomore; and Madison, in seventh grade at LFL.
“I was inspired to run for the school board because of my sincere interest in our public education and each student’s educational needs,” Saul said. “(I want) to stay focused on how the changes that are implemented will positively and/or negatively impact student achievement, not only for today, but for the next generation of students to come.”
Saul added she believes the education budget shortfall is one of the most important issues facing Wyoming schools, and said “trying to find the resources to fill in the gaps without taking away from the students educational goals and achievements” is a priority.
“Some of my goals as a member of the school board is to provide a clear vision and help create conditions to improve the overall learning environment in our classrooms, schools and district, including safety, security, health and happiness of student and staff with great success,” Saul said.
She will serve the remainder of the seat’s term – until November – at which point her position will be up for election.
