TORRINGTON – Santiago “Jim” Jurado, 88, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, Neb., surrounded by family.

His Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, April 23, 2018, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering, Neb., with Fr. Mike McDonald as Celebrant. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff, Neb. Viewing was Sunday, April 22, followed by a Rosary.

The family respectfully requests memorials in Jim’s honor be made in care of Regional West Hospice or Mitchell Care Center. Online condolences may be left at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born in Presidio, Texas, he was the son of Francisco and Ramona (Olguin) Jurado. He lived most of his life in Torrington, retiring to Gering. Jim worked most of his life for CB&Q Railroad, which later became Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired after nearly 30 years of dedicated service.

The happiest day of his life was when he met the love of his life, Emilia Aguallo. Santiago and Emilia married in 1954. They moved to Torrington, where they raised their seven children. He was a devoted husband and father who loved taking his family on vacations to explore National Parks. He was quite fond of his 1985 Black Trans AM that he enjoyed showing off to his family and friends, as evidenced by the many driveways that he left black marks on as he “burned rubber.” He and his wife loved life itself and lived it to its fullest. Weekends were filled with music and as a couple they enjoyed dancing and taking trips to Prairie Winds Casino.

The Jurado family would like to offer a special thank you to Paul and Mary Aguallo and Danny and Stella Lopez for their care and the emotional support they provided during this difficult time. They would also like to recognize the staff at Mitchell Care Center and Regional West Hospice for the loving care they provided. They are truly experts in compassion and human care.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Emilia (Aguallo) Jurado and children: son, Jesse Jurado and wife Sharon of Alliance, Neb.; daughter Rita Scott and husband Terry of Scottsbluff; daughter Teresa Scott and husband Rick of Cleveland, N.C.; daughter Maria Jurado-Flynn of New York, N.Y.; son Joe Jurado and wife Beth of Denver, Colo.; daughter Gloria Delgado and husband Anthony of Denver; daughter Esther Holliday and husband Brad and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rita and Romelia; and two brothers, Roberto and Francisco.
