GUERNSEY – Funeral liturgy for Rudolph Paul “Rudy” Martinez, 76, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at the Guernsey-Sunrise High School Gymnasium in Guernsey, with Father Andrew Duncan as the Celebrant.
Rudy Martinez died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 in Guernsey of natural causes.
A Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Guernsey. Interment will be at Prairie Rest Cemetery near Guernsey with military honors accorded by Lake Guernsey VFW Post #4471, J.J. Webb American Legion Post #95, and United State Air Force Military Funeral Honors.
Rudy was born Friday, May 30, 1941, in Torrington, the son of Policarpio V. “Paul” and Celia L. (Lopez) Martinez. He was raised and educated in Sunrise and graduated from Sunrise High School in 1959.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 22, 1959, and was discharged May 21, 1963. He returned to the Guernsey – Sunrise area and worked for Lamb Construction for a short time. He then went to work for the CFI-Sunrise Mine in Sunrise for 19 years. After the closing of the mine, Rudy began working for the Platte County School District No. 2 in Guernsey as a custodian for 20 years. He still worked for the school on at need basis. In his retirement years he also worked at the Trail Ruts Golf Course in Guernsey.
He was married to Kim Oliver on July 13, 1975, in Guernsey. They later divorced.
Rudy enjoyed golfing, playing in pool leagues, and collecting coins and sports memorabilia.
Rudy enjoyed his family, especially spending extended time with his three grandchildren.
Rudy is survived by his daughter, Jillian (Matt White) Martinez of Torrington; siblings JoAnne Bueno, Robert Martinez, Anthony Martinez all of Guernsey, and Carmen Castaneda of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren Jessica White, Alexis White and Carlos Hernandez, all of Torrington.
Rudy was preceded in death by his father, Paul, on Feb. 25, 1992; mother, Celia, on
Sept. 8, 1994; and siblings, George Martinez, Pedro Martinez, and Mary Margaret Martinez.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Perkins, Mark Martinez, Aaron Martinez, Jason Martinez, Paul Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Jim Sisson and Todd Limoges.  
A memorial to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.
