TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College hung a new banner Monday, commemorating the 2016-17 Lancer golf team that won the region and competed at the NJCAA National Tournament.

EWC took the top spot in Region IX last year, winning eight tournaments between the fall and spring season. At the national tournament, the Lancers took 18th as a team, led by Harry Walch, who was the top golfer in the region last year. Walch shot a +26 over the four-day tournament, tying for 62nd. Arvy Shongwe tied for 76th (+32), while Jared Pilkington (T-90th), Adrian Ruiz-Torrez (T-95th) and Denton Shaw (97th) rounded out the five competitors for the Lancers.

The banner honoring last year’s golf accomplishments are hung next to the banner celebrating the 2015-16 EWC golf team. In 2015-16, the Lancers won the region again, taking 20th in that year’s national tournament.

The EWC golf team gets back to competitive action on March 22-23, when it opens its spring season in La Junta, Colo. in a tournament hosted by Otero Junior College. The Lancers’ home tournament this spring is on April 19-20 at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course.
