The National Circuit Finals Steer Roping was held in Torrington this past weekend. Thirty-five of the top steer ropers in the country competed over two days at the Goshen County Fairgrounds, with 220 runs spread between Friday and Saturday.
The event started with four full rounds on Saturday and two additional rounds on Sunday, with a spot in the top-eight on the line. Dee Kyler Jr., Hank Hollenbeck, Vin Fisher Jr., Fred Brown, Cody Lee, Chris Glover, Will McBride and Tuf Cooper all made it to the top-eight based on their runs in the previous rounds.
Once action got to the round of eight, the previous round’s results were tossed out and one run separated competitors from the finals. Cooper and McBride, above, both had times of 10.2 seconds in the semi-finals to win the round and make it to the finals. Fisher and Glover were also part of the final four.
Fisher, the 2016 champion, went first in the finals but was unable to record a time. Glover, the 2017 champion, suffered the same fate, resulting in a no-time. McBride put down a qualifying time of 11.2 seconds. Cooper came last and, like two other finalists, couldn’t get a time, giving McBride the win.
