TORRINGTON – A funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Natividad “Nattie” Otero, 94, at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Saint Rose Catholic Church with the Rev. Andrew Duncan and Deacon Roland Raboin officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. 

Nattie died in her home on Oct. 31, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to either Saint Rose Catholic Church or Our Lady of Guadalupe Society. 

A rosary/wake service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com. 

Nattie was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Watrous, N.M., to Floriano and Margarita (Palomino) Garcia. She attended school in Raton, N.M. 

She married Aurelio Otero on Feb. 14, 1942, in Raton. They made their home in Torrington since then. To this union they were blessed with four children. Nattie was a member of Saint Rose Catholic Church. She enjoyed many hobbies such as cord rosary making, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, tending her flower garden and sewing. 

The patchwork embroidery that decorated her casket lid was made by Nattie and she also sewed the dress that she was buried in. Nattie had a strong devotion to the Sacred heart of Jesus and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She loved her family very much and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.

Nattie is survived by her four children Bennie and his wife Diann of Craig, Colo., Bob of Torrington, Edwin of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Patsy and her husband Antonio Velazquez of Torrington. She also had grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. 

Preceding her in death in addition to her beloved husband Aurelio were her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
