DOUGLAS – Funeral services for Marjorie Jean Yates, 99, will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Yates died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at her home in Douglas with her son, Dave, at her bedside.

Marjorie was born Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1921 in Peru, Neb., the daughter of William Franklin and Ethel Louise (Chambers) Lehrman. She was raised and educated in Peru, graduating from the Peru High School. Marjorie moved to Huntley with her parents and sister, Ann. She was married to Oral Wayne Yates on Oct. 17, 1942 in Scottsbluff, Neb. They resided in Goshen County and Oral worked on a ranch. Oral had a farming accident in July 1951. Marjorie and Oral, along with their two sons, moved to an acreage east of Torrington in 1952. They eventually moved into Torrington, where they resided until 2007, and at that time moved to Douglas to be near family.

Marjorie enjoyed playing pinochle and visiting with friends at the Senior Center. She took great pride in hosting Christmas gatherings for her family and friends. A favorite pastime for Marjorie was caring for her yard, flowers and garden. She would can fresh vegetables from her garden.

She is survived by her son, Dave (Joann) Yates of Douglas; daughter-in-law, Anne Yates Leimser of Columbus, Mont.; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her father, William, on July 2, 1976; mother, Ethel, on Aug. 31, 1961; husband, Oral, on March 9, 2008; son, Danny Yates, on Oct. 15, 1997; and sister, Ann Curry.
