Main Street Market raises funds for Goshen County Task Force

Posted

TORRINGTON – Main Street Market partnered with Goshen County Task Force on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (GCTF) to raise awareness and money to support the work of the Task Force.

In what has become an annual event, cashiers asked shoppers to donate to the Purple Doves Campaign. This year’s campaign raised $2,146.94 in donations.

The money is used to help pay expenses for persons who are in crises from domestic violence or sexual assault.

To encourage cashiers to ask shoppers for donations, Chris Powell, owner of Powell Water Consulting, donated $100 to be awarded to the cashier who raised the most money. Powell said he offered the prize to do something special for the cashier who worked the hardest on the campaign.

“I wanted to give a little something back to the community for helping in this much needed assistance to those in need” Powell said.

GCTF offers help to those persons who are in need.

“We offer everything from shelter and safety to hand-holding in court to those who need help. While our services are cost free to those in need, we must pay,” Talitha Fleenor, board member of GCTF said. “Donations are what we use to provide the services. Statistics say one in four persons is affected by domestic violence, a sad but true statistic. Based on the population of Goshen County (13,249 in 2020), that means roughly 3,300 persons in our own county are victims. Local donations give us the funds to help those in need.”

GCTF services are confidential, and the identity of the victims are protected at all times.

You can contact the Task Force by phone at the 24-hour hotline 307-532-2118. Donations are always welcome and can be mailed or dropped off at the office at 1933 Main, Torrington. Donations are tax exempt.
