GILLETTE – Area high school rodeo competitors wrapped up the 2021-22 season last week at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette.

Cord Herring was the lone competitor from Goshen County to reach Saturday’s championship round.

Herring, along with Jade Espenscheild of Big Piney, teamed up to finish sixth in the final round in 5.96 seconds. The duo also finished sixth for the week in the average in 24.57 seconds.

Herring and Espenscheild finished third in 6.05 seconds in the first go-round and 36th in 12.56 seconds in the second go-round.

Haiden Thompson of Yoder and Jace Mayfield of Midwest finished 11th in the second go-round in 6.98 seconds.

Thompson also competed in reined cow horse, goat tying and breakaway roping.

In reined cow horse, she finished 23rd and 19th in the two go-rounds with a score of 288.5 in both rounds. In goat tying, she won the first go-round in 7.06 seconds and finished 98th in the second round in 11.43 seconds.

In breakaway roping, Thompson finished 28th in 3.34 seconds.

In girls’ cutting, Baliegh Lane had scores of 124 to place 94th and 136 to finish 57th.
