SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Southeast junior Jordan Stoddard highlighted the annual Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff on Monday evening.

After the weather forecast forced the event to be moved up 24 hours, Stoddard broke her own meet record in high jump.

Stoddard cleared 5 feet, 8 inches in the event, beating the event record of 5-6 1/2, a record she set as a freshman at the 2019 edition of the meet. Stoddard beat out Torrington junior Allison Brummel, who finished fourth in the event at 5-1.

Stoddard also beat out Brummel in long jump. Stoddard won the event with a leap of 17-11 3/4, while Brummell was fourth at 16-1.

Brummell did score a win in triple jump with a distance of 34-1 1/2.

In the other field events, Reece Halley led a trio of locals with a third-place finish in discus with a throw of 104-11 1/2, beating out teammate Sierra Allen, who finished fourth at 102-8. Southeast sophomore Shelby Ekwall was sixth at 100-11 1/2.

In shot put, Ekwall placed second at 37 feet, while Southeast’s Harper Boche was fifth at 33-11.

In the 800-meter run, Torrington senior Sera Glass finished second in 2 minutes, 25.02 seconds, while Torrington sophomore Marissa Moorehouse was third in the 200-meter dash in 27.96 seconds.

In the 1,600-meter run, L-FL freshman Natalie Speckner finished fourth in 5:37.82, finishing one spot ahead of Torrington freshman Ada Merrigan in 5:51.78. In the 3,200-meter run Torrington sophomore Amberly Froerer placed eighth in 13:40.77.

The Torrington 4x100 and 4x400-relay teams finished fifth. The 4x100 team of Hailey Boslau, Brummell, Moorehouse and Alyssa Wondercheck crossed the finish line in 53.91 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Boslau, Glass, Moorehouse and Wondercheck finished the race in 4:21.45.

Wondercheck also finished eighth in the 100-meter dash in 14.35 seconds.

In the hurdle events, L-FL sophomore Emma Walker was seventh in the 300-meter in 52.06 seconds, while Halley placed eighth in 18.98 in the 100-meter hurdles.

As a team, the Lady Blazers finished third with 67.5 points, while Southeast was seventh with 35 points. Lingle-Fort Laramie ended the day 20th with seven points.

In the boys’ division, Lingle-Fort Laramie junior Kyland Fuller was the highest finisher local athlete.

Fuller finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:01.23, beating out Torrington’s Aydan Loya, who finished fifth in 2:06.88.

Southeast junior Ryan Clapper placed in the top six in multiple events, including a third in the 200-meter dash in 23.18 seconds, while Torrington sophomore Brendan Flock was seventh in 24.08. Clapper was also sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.73.

In the distance events, Torrington junior Weston Cronk was sixth in 4:48.85, while freshman Myles Wilson was also sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 11:06.89.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Blazer senior Cody Pierce was fourth in 42.88 seconds, finishing one spot ahead of Lingle-Fort Laramie freshman.

In field events, Torrington senior Aidan Hull was third in high jump at 6-1, while Cooper Hill was fifth in the long jump at 20-1. In pole vault, Torrington junior Bryant DeMott was seventh at a height of 10-10, while sophomore Ryan Baker was eighth in discus with a toss of 113-11.

Torrington was eighth with 23.66 points, while Lingle-Fort Laramie was 10th with 19 points. Southeast was 17th with nine.

Torrington travels to Buffalo for the Buffalo Twilight on Friday, while Southeast and Lingle-Fort Laramie travel to Lusk for the Zowada Invite on Saturday.
