TORRINGTON – As part of its 100-year celebration, the Goshen County Library hosted a sip and paint on Saturday.
Twenty-six painters took part in the second event by the library for the celebration with more events planned each month for the rest of the year.
Julie Nighswonger led the painting while Brandi Hiser from Two Horse Hospitality provided drinks and snacks.
Before the painting began, Nighswonger informed the painters of the number one rule.
“Don’t dip your paintbrush into your wine,” Nighswonger said and added it often happens during sip and paints.
The painters selected two colors which complimented each other and the rooms or offices where they wished to display their works of art.
The subject of the paintings were colorful flowers which Nighswonger provided a guide, and the painters added their own unique touches.
Nighswonger also taught several different techniques to add to the painting such as adding water to the canvas, using thicker paint on the bottoms of the flowers and using old room keys and credit cards to paint the stems.
Each painter chose unique color combinations, shapes and styles to create their own artwork.
At the end of the event, participants held up their paintings to identify and final changes and complimented each other on their artwork.
After taking a group picture with their paintings, Library Director Cristine Braddy announced the next event will be Library Lovers where they will host a virtual party and deliver heart-shaped pizzas to those who want to participate. The stream will also be recorded for those who still want to see it but cannot attend live.
Braddy also said participants receive a stamp on their library card for each event they attend which equals an entry for the grand prize drawing.
