LFLSE seventh at Shane Shatto

DOUGLAS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast wrestling team had five of its six wrestlers place in the top six at the annual Shane Shatto Memorial Invite last weekend in Douglas.

Leading the way was senior Will Baker at 285 pounds with a third-place finish with a 4-1 record. Baker’s lone setback came in the semifinal round to Lane Catlin of Thunder Basin, but the senior scored back-to-back falls to claim third.

In the 138-pound bracket, freshman Louden Bremer finished fourth.

After a bye in the opening round, Bremer lost by a 7-4 decision to Wheatland’s Devin Weber, but Bremer rattled off four consecutive wins, three by fall and one by 8-7 decision, to reach the third-place match. Weber and Bremer met again in their final match with Weber pinning Bremer.

In the 132-pound division, Kaleb Brothwell ended the way with a win in the fifth-place match.

Brothwell reached the semifinal round after a pair of pins, but he lost to Liam Fox of Cheyenne East by an 8-6 decision. The loss dropped Brothwell to the consolation semifinals where he came up short in an 6-4 decision to Lucas Hill of Campbell County, dropping Bothwell to the fifth-place match.

Brothwell ended the day with a forfeit win over Alex Draper of Thunder Basin.

Wyatt Sylvester (113 pounds) and Jaden Houk (126) reached the medal round in their respective weight classes. Both lost in their final matches of the weekend to place sixth. Sylvester lost to Ezra Hernandez of Riverton by fall, and Houk was pinned by Tony Brogan of Castle View (Colorado).

As a team, LFLSE finished seventh with 83 points. The team was the highest finishing Class 2A school at the tournament. Natrona County won the team title with 222 points, while Thunder Basin was second with 217.5 Douglas was third with 200.5.

LFLSE travels to the Newcastle Invite on Friday.
