CASPER – The Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast wrestling team placed five wrestlers at last week’s Wyoming Class 2A State Championships in Casper.

All five wrestlers placed in the top three in their respective weight classes.

Leading the way was Brock Blevins with a second-place finish at 113 pounds.

Blevins pinned his way to the championship match, defeating Rianna Tidwell of Shoshoni, Mont Haslem of Kemmerer and William Spann of Lovell. All three falls came in the first period. The first two matches took less than a minute to complete, while the longest match came in the semifinal round with the pin taking 1 minute, 32 seconds over Spann.

In the championship match, Blevins led Moorcroft’s Sean Buckmiller 8-6 after one period. A near fall and take down pushed Blevins’ lead to 12-7.

Leading 14-9 with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock, Blevins state title defense came to an end when he was pinned at the 5:33 mark of the match.

Blevins ended the season with a 20-2 record.

Grant Logsdon (106 pounds), Wyatt Sylvester (113), Kaleb Brothwell (120) and Will Baker (285) all finished third.

Logsdon, Brothwell and Baker had their only loss of the day come in the semifinal round, while Sylvester had the longest road to the medal stand after dropping his opening round match.

Sylvester lost in a sudden victory 14-12 in the opening round to Wind River’s Aidan Ruby, but he battled back with three straight pins to advance to the consolation semifinal. Sylvester scored a 10-5 win over Saratoga’s Tuker Carricato to move on to the third-place match.

Sylvester’s final match featured a rematch with Ruby, and this time, the LFLSE wrestler pinned Ruby in 56 seconds.

At 106 pounds, Logsdon received an opening round bye, and pinned Kathryn Mickelson of Lovell in the quarterfinal round.

Logsdon’s only loss of the day came in the semifinal round against Kemmerer’s Karl Haslem, the eventual 106-pound state champion. Logsdon bounced back with falls over Niobrara County’s Gabe Matthews and Wyitt Knight of Wright to claim third.

In the 120-pound bracket, Brothwell went 4-1 on the day. He opened the day with a 15-0 technical fall victory over Hanna-Elk Mountain’s Howard Bame and a fall over Shoshoni’s Malachi Lane to reach the semifinal round.

In the semifinals, Brothwell dropped a 5-3 decision to Connor Vickrey of Kemmerer, the eventual state champion. The loss was the first of the year for Brothwell, and it proved to be his only loss of the season.

Brothwell bounced back with a 5-3 win over Cokeville’s Micah Peterson and a 3-2 win over Wright’s Pace Garrett for third.

In the heavyweight division, Baker opened the day with an injury default win over Moorcroft’s Isaiah Erickson before recording a 53 second victory over Robert Hunt of Big Piney.

In the semifinal round, Baker was pinned by Thermopolis’ Remington Ferree. Ferree went on to win the 285-pound championship, while Baker finished the day off with pins of Hulett’s Sheldon Jolley and Lovell’s Cruz Garcia.

Ethan Steinhausen (182), Brant Fullmer (160) did not place but picked up two wins to finish the day with a 2-2 record, while Gage Gibson (145), Jaden Houk (132) and Josie Houk (126) went 1-2 on the day for LFLSE.

As a team, LFLSE finished eighth in the team standings with 103.5 points. Wright won the state championship with 200, while Kemmerer was second with 173 points. Cokeville was third with 168.5.
