BURNS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys’ basketball team went 0-3 at the Burns Winter Classic last weekend.

The Doggers opened the weekend Friday morning with a 69-39 loss to Arvada, Colorado.

Lingle kept things close in the early going. The team’s lone senior Noah Hatch tied the game at two apiece, and freshman Brody Roberts tied the game only two minutes into the game.

Three minutes later, sophomore Aiden Matthews drew the Doggers within one at 7-6, but that proved to be as close as LFL came to Arvada the remainder of the game.

The Bulldogs used a 14-2 run over the spanning the final 3:46 of the opening quarter and into the first two minutes of the second quarter.

Roberts slowed the Arvada run with a pair of buckets early in the second.

However, it was early in the third quarter when Lingle freshman Wyler Fisher cut the deficit to eight at 36-28.

That was as close as the Doggers comeback came for the remainder of the game.

Over the final 10 minutes of the contest, Arvada outscored Lingle, 33-11.

Roberts led the Doggers in scoring with 12, while freshman Kaiden Riggs added eight. Matthews tossed in seven. Matthews grabbed a team-high 19 rebounds, while Riggs and Spears had five each.

The next day, Lingle played a pair of Wyoming schools in Class 2A Moorcroft and 3A Burns.

In the early afternoon session, the Doggers came up short against the Moorcroft Wolves, 49-35.

Freshman Elijah Hatch led the team with 13 points, while Matthews, Noah Hatch and Spears each had seven points. Matthews grabbed 12 rebounds, while Spears had 11.

The Doggers shot only 29% (12-of-41) from the field, including 24% (4-of-17) from beyond the 3-point line.

Later in the evening, the Winter Classic hosts, the Burns Broncs, blew out the Doggers 74-24.

Burns raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter, before Lingle got on the scoreboard in the second quarter.

By halftime, the Broncs lead was 39 at 48-9, reaching 60-19 after three quarters.
