LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School volleyball team will take a three-game losing streak into the Class 2A East Regional Tournament this weekend in Burns.

The Lady Doggers ended the regular season suffering sweeps at the hands of Southeast and Burns last Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, the Southeast Lady Cyclones handed LFL a 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 loss.

Lingle led 6-5 in the opening set before a 4-0 spurt by the Lady Cyclones put them in front 9-6. A kill by Southeast senior Sydney Anderson and an ace by junior Baylie Booth highlighted the brief run.

It was the last Lady Dogger lead until the third set.

Towards the end of the first, LFL senior Kameryn Rafferty drew the Lady Doggers within 22-20 after a kill, but Lady Cyclone senior Brenna Herring capped off the match with three straight kills.

In the second set, Southeast jumped out to a 3-1 advantage and never trailed. Lingle managed to tie the set on three occasions, but in each instance kills by Anderson, sophomore Brooklyn Leithead and Herring quickly broke the tie as Southeast pulled away for the 10-point set win.

In the third, the Lady Cyclones looked put away the visitors quickly, taking a 5-1 lead.

However, a kill by LFL junior Natalie Speckner sparked a rally which eventually gave the Lady Doggers a 10-8 advantage.

The lead was short-lived as Southeast countered with three straight points of its own to regain the lead.

It proved to be the last lead change of the evening.

Lingle was led by Speckner with seven kills, while sophomore Brenly Shipp had six. Junior Leah Foster tallied three aces, while Rafferty had two solo blocks. Speckner led the team with 15 digs.

On Friday, the Lady Doggers returned home to wrap up 2A Southeast Quadrant play against the Class 2A WyoPreps.com No. 2-ranked Burns Lady Broncs.

Burns swept Lingle 27-25, 25-19, 25-15.

In the opening set, LFL battled back from a 16-14 deficit with a 10-4 run to take a 24-20 lead.

However, Burns scored the next four points to tie the set at 24.

Speckner slowed the Burns spurt with a kill, but a net violation by LFL tied the set again.

Burns promptly served up two aces to secure the set win.

The Lady Broncs kept the momentum on their side early in the second set, scoring the first four points.

The set proved to be a set of runs.

The Lady Doggers countered with six straight points to take the lead, but Burns battled back with a 6-1 spurt to take a 10-7 advantage.

It proved to be the final lead chance of the match.

In the third set, Burns scored the first point, and Lingle managed to tie the set on two occasions, but never saw the lead again.

Speckner and Foster led the team with six kills each, while Shipp added five. Senior Baylee Skinner tallied two of the team’s three aces and had a team-high 15 digs, while Rafferty had two blocks to lead the team. Freshman Skyla Wunder dished out 12 assists.

The Lady Doggers (13-12-1) head to the 2A East Regional Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the Southeast Quadrant. They will face Sundance (11-14-2) in the opening round. LFL has lost twice earlier in the season to the Lady Bulldogs, falling 2-1 on Aug. 26 at the LFL Invite and 2-1 on Sept. 10 at the Big Horn Invite.

First serve is scheduled for at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Burns.
