Lancers stifled by Casper

CASPER – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancers were held to their lowest scoring output of the season, falling on the road Tuesday to Casper College, 100-61.

The Thunderbirds came out hot, pouring in 53 points in the first 20 minutes of action, while the Lancers mustered 32 in the same time frame. In the second half, EWC’s scoring output dropped to 29, while Casper still accounted for 47 to hold on for the 39-point win.

Alek Cosic was the top scorer for the Lancers, pouring in 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including a three-pointer. He also led the team in rebounds, with eight, and added an assist to his stat line.

Fellow starters Nick Holmes and Walker Korell contributed seven points apiece. The duo also combined for two rebounds and two assists. Jonathan Morrobel turned in five points, five boards, an assist and a team-high two steals.

Trey Schroefel kicked in two points and made other significant contributions on the floor, tallying seven rebounds, three on offense, and a team-high seven steals.

Brandon Meadows topped the scoring sheet among players to come off the bench, with nine points, which he paired with three rebounds. Bruno Oliveira notched six points and three rebounds. Chad Hinrichs and Daniel Wright had three points each, with Rhythm Ajanku, Ty Larson and Kolton Wall kicking in two points apiece.

The Lancers outrebounded the Thunderbirds, 45-38, but shot only 32 percent from the floor and committed 23 turnovers. Casper shot 53 percent and had only nine turnovers.

The loss puts EWC at 1-10 on the season and they are currently on a seven-game losing streak. The Lancers will look to snap that streak this weekend with road games against Central Wyoming College at 7 p.m. Friday and Western Wyoming Community College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
