Lancers break streak with win

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College’s Lissette Lefforge poured in a game-high 14 kills as the Lancers captured a three-set sweep of Central Wyoming College (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) Saturday at the Verl Petsch Jr. Activities Center Gymnasium. 

The victory gave the Lancers a split of weekend sub-region contests. 

Eastern Wyoming dropped a three-set match to Western Wyoming (25-16, 25-20, 25-12) Friday in Torrington. 

Despite hitting just .205 (39 kills in 112 attempts) against Central Wyoming, the Lancers’ defense managed to keep Central’s offense at bay, hitting at a .136 clip, including just .057 in the third set. 

Dawson Sharman added six kills for the Lancers, while Souadou Bangoura added five and Katie Strohschein had four. Lexi Trowbridge had a team-high 18 set assists and Mallori Campbell added 14 assists. 

Against Western Wyoming, the Lancers got 10 kills from Lefforge and four from Bangoura in the loss. 

Eastern hit just .038 in the match (27-for-104) and committed 23 attack errors. 

Sharman, Strohschein, Shaniah Freeseman and Paige Vitosh added three kills apiece, while Trowbridge had 15 assists and Campbell added nine. Nadia Montalban El-Hiriche had a team-hgih 17 defensive digs for the Lancers.
