LaGrange, Hawk Springs plan first-ever joint reunion

GOSHEN COUNTY – Next month, graduates of the former Hawk Springs and LaGrange high schools will gather and reminisce in an official capacity during a first-of-its-kind combined reunion.

Organizers sent invitations for the “Joint Hawk Springs and LaGrange High School Celebration” to all alumni, teachers, and employees – with the event scheduled for Saturday, June 9, at the Goshen County Fairgrounds’ Rendezvous Center.

Pre-registration deadline for the event is set for Tuesday, May 22.

“We are hoping to get the attendance up this year,” the invitation reads. “It has been steadily dropping. In 2015, Hawk Springs had about 80 attendees, and LaGrange had about 50. We plan to have a program that is more inclusive of those attending, recognition of special people, significant school events, and some entertainment.”

Attendees will also enjoy hors-d’oeuvres, a cash bar and beverages beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner, catered by The Bucking Horse, includes sliced beef au jus, buttermilk fried chicken, smashed garlic potatoes, vegetables, rolls, desserts, iced tea, water and coffee.

Dave Hague, 1972 LaGrange graduate, will provide DJ music for karaoke and dancing.

For additional reminiscing, the LaGrange Heritage Square (former LaGrange school building) will be open for visitors from 12 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9. The large brick structure opened 90 years ago and was the learning center for students ranging from first to 12th grade.

“We can be proud and grateful for our parents, the community support, school, school administration and teachers, classmates, friends, and families,” organizers said. “These were the foundation and launch pad for our careers and choices in life. We have a lot to remember and share. Let’s get together, talk, laugh, have fun and create a memorable time together.”
