Lady Lancers fall in overtime to Lady Trojans

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers outscored Trinidad State Junior College 30-21 in the second half to force overtime, but the visiting Lady Trojans put up 10 more points in overtime than EWC, winning the game 81-71.

Trinidad State jumped out to the early lead after going up 21-18 after the first 10 minutes of action. EWC was held to 10 points in the second quarter, going into halftime down 37-28. In the third, the Lady Lancers began chipping away at the lead, outscoring the visitors 16-12. In the fourth, EWC poured in 14 points to the Lady Trojans’ nine to knot the game at 58. In overtime, Trinidad State netted 23 points, while EWC was held to 13.

Pamela Bethel notched another double-double on the season, tallying 13 points and 15 boards. She shot 6-of-17 from the floor and added a steal to her stat line.

Lauren O’Connell exploded for 21 points in the win on 7-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc. She also had two boards and an assist. Abril Rexach Roure joined Bethel and O’Connell with double-digit scoring, tallying 11 points, along with tying for the team lead with three assists.

Cathlyn Knutson came off the bench and chipped in 12 points with all of her points coming from behind the arc, where she shot 4-of-8. She also had one of the team’s three blocks.

Rounding out the starters, Ines Salat Margarit racked up four points, five boards, two assists and two steals, while Macie Mackey contributed two points, three assists, a steal and a block.

Also coming off the bench, Nicole Cutler turned in sic points, a board and a block, while Emily Buchanan added two points, three rebounds and two assists.

The loss dropped the Lady Lancers to 8-7 on the season. EWC returns to action on the road Friday against Lamar Community College, with the tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by a road game against Otero Junior College Saturday at 2 p.m.
