SHERIDAN – The Eastern Wyoming College volleyball team closed out the regular season with a weekend sweep over Northwest College and Sheridan College.

The Lady Lancers locked up the two seed and a bye in the opening round of the Region IX Tournament. Eastern Wyoming will also ride a four-game winning streak into postseason play.

“Locking up the two seed was big,” EWC coach Dante Geoffrey said. “We wanted to save ourselves the hassle of playing an 8 a.m. game on Wednesday.”

The Lancers will now play at 3 p.m. against the winner of Otero and Northwest.

“More than locking up that two seed, we just wanted to kind of getting on a roll and get some positive vibes going into the Regional tournament,” Geoffrey said.

He feels like his team did just that.

On Friday, the Lady Lancers traveled to Powell to face the Northwest College Trappers and came away with a 3-1 victory.

EWC dominated set one, 25-12.

“Our offense was as sharp as it’s been during region play,” Geoffrey said. “Our setters did a phenomenal job of mixing things up, making it a very diverse offense. Friday night against Northwest, we had our way with them in the first set.”

Then EWC took its foot off the gas and dropped that second set, as Northwest answered with a 25-17 win in the second set to even the match score.

Over the next two sets, the Lady Lancers polished off the Trappers with 25-15 and 25-16 wins.

The Lady Lancers were led by freshman Vanja Przulj with 13 kills, while sophomore Charlene Hosly added 12. Freshman Lauren Feierabend tallied five of the team’s 10 blocks. Hosly also recorded 16 digs, while freshman J’Adora Hayes had 15.

“The start of all that was Lexi Trowbridge and Devyn Volz, our setters, who did a great job being consistent and knew where their hitters were,” Geoffrey said. “That’s what we are going to need to be able to do anything at Regionals.”

The next day, the Lady Lancers traveled east to Sheridan to face the Lady Generals.

Eastern Wyoming pulled off a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-23) sweep of Sheridan.

The Lady Lancers had a trio of players record double-figures in kills.

Przulj led the team with 17, while Hosly added 13. Freshman Alyssa Parmelee had 10. Feierabend had a team-high three blocks, while freshman Emma Larsen had two. Hayes led the team with 19 digs, while sophomore Alexis Trowbridge added 12 and Przulj 10.

The Lady Lancers wrapped up the regular season with a 23-11 record and will begin the Region IX Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the North Sub-Region.

Notes:

ν Przulj is third in the North with 3.52 kills per set and sixth with a .251 hitting percentage.

ν Hosly finished the regular season as one of only two players in Region IX-North to average more than three kills per set and three digs per set, and the only one to do so with a hitting percentage more than .200.

ν The Lady Lancers have seen both Otero and Northwest this season. They are 2-1 with EWC sweeping Northwest in North Sub-Region play, but fell to Otero 3-1 at the NJC Tournament earlier in the year.
