Lady Lancers come up short versus Northeastern

STERLING, Colo. – The Northeastern Junior College Lady Plainsmen connected on nine 3-pointers fending off Eastern Wyoming College on Monday evening in Sterling, Colo., in a 72-66 loss.

The Lady Lancers fell behind early 13-8 after 10 minutes of play, but over the next two quarters, the teams played even.

Heading to the final quarter, the Lady Lancers poured on 28 points, but it proved not enough in the six-point loss.

Despite the big offensive output in the final quarter, EWC also gave up 26 points over the final 10 minutes.

Eastern Wyoming shot 42.4 percent (25 of 59) while shooting 23.8 percent (5 of 21) from 3-point range.

Freshman Ane Esnal Aguirre led all scorers with 21, while sophomore Paula Martinez Sanz added 17 points.

The Lady Lancers (7-7) travel to Powell to face Northwest College on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
