Lady Doggers one win short

DOUGLAS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers went 1-2 at the 1A East Regional Tournament over the weekend in Douglas, falling one win short of making the state tournament.

The Lady Doggers ended their tournament with a nail-biting loss to the Lady Vikings. The Lady Doggers beat Guernsey-Sunrise twice during the regular seaason, but the Lady Vikings held the advantage in the postseason.

L-FL 53, Midwest 37

The Lady Doggers found themselves behind early in their lone win of the weekend against Midwest, but strung some points together to put the deficit at 17-12 after the first frame. L-FL quickly made up the difference, with a bucket from Heilbrun knotting the score at 17 early in the second. At intermission, the Lady Doggers were up 29-27.

L-FL picked up where it left off when it returned to the floor, pouring in 17 points in the third quarter, while limiting Midwest to six. In the fourth, the Lady Doggers outscored the Lady Oilers 7-4 to seal the win.

Kaelyn Riley had a solid game, racking up 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. She had a steal and also led the team in both rebounds, with seven, and assists, with five.

Kelcie Sargent joined Riley in double-figures, notching 14 points, three boards and three steals on the night. Ashley Riley and Heilbrun each recorded seven points in the win. Riley packed her stat line with six boards, three assists and a team-high six steals, while Heilbrun finished with three rebounds and a steal. Rafferty and White rounded out the scoring, combining for three points, a rebound, two assists and two steals.

Kaycee 42, L-FL 28

L-FL started the weekend with a loss to Kaycee. The Lady Doggers fell behind 8-6 after the first frame and were down 22-12 by halftime. The Lady Buckaroos only outscored the Lady Doggers by one points (9-8) in the third quarter, but L-FL failed to make up the distance in the fourth, with Kaycee adding another 11 points to its total.

Kaelyn Riley was again the top scorer with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. Ashley Riley added another seven points, including five from the charity stripe, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Sargent kicked in six points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals, while Heilbrun and Callie Fritzler combined for seven points, three rebounds and an assist.

White led the team with eight rebounds, which she paired with an assist, while Rafferty added two boards of her own.

The Lady Doggers finished the year with a 6-17 record.
