Lady Cyclones split with Hornets, Tigers

LUSK – The Southeast High School volleyball team split a pair of road SEWAC conference matches over the weekend with the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets and the Niobrara County High School Lady Tigers.

On Thursday, the Lady Cyclones traveled to Pine Bluffs, falling 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21).

Juniors Sydney Anderson and Brenna Herring led the Lady Cyclones with nine kills apiece, while junior Shelby Ekwall finished the match with five. Senior Grace Desmond, sophomore Harper Boche and Anderson tallied one ace apiece, while sophomore Bailey Booth recorded 12 assists, while Herring had 11.

On the defensive side of the net, Desmond led Southeast with five blocks, while Ekwall and Herring had four apiece. Four Lady Cyclones recorded double-figures in digs with Haines having a team-high 15, while Desmond, Anderson and Booth had 14 each.

The next day, Southeast returned to the road, traveling north to Lusk, and the Lady Cyclones returned to the win column with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) sweep of the NCHS Lady Tigers.

As a team, the Lady Cyclones tallied 16 kills, and Anderson tallied a team-high five. Ekwall added three. Herring recorded three of the team’s nine serving aces, while Haines added two. Herring also had 11 assists for the match.

On the defensive side of the net, Herring had three blocks, while Desmond and Haines had one apiece. Anderson had 18 digs, while Haines had nine.

The Lady Cyclones are now 16-9 with two regular season matches remaining. Southeast hosts Lingle-Fort Laramie (8-14) on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Glenrock (11-13) at 5 p.m. Friday.
