Lady Cyclones fall in three in Shoshoni

SHOSHONI – The Southeast Lady Cyclones dropped all three of their games over the weekend at the Wrangler Invitational in Shoshoni, falling to Little Snake River and losing to Farson-Eden and Rocky Mountain by a combined five points.

Rocky Mountain 32, Southeast 29

The Lady Cyclones started the weekend on a solid note, taking a 10-6 lead after the first eight minutes of action. Rocky Mountain rallied to put up more points in the second quarter, but Southeast still went into halftime up 15-14. In the third quarter, the Lady Cyclones’ offense was stifled, as the team was outscored 14-4. Despite Southeast attempting a rally in the fourth, outscoring Rocky Mountain 10-4, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Morgan Ekwall was the top scorer for the Lady Cyclones, pouring in eight points. She also led the way in rebounds, with eight, steals, with three, and assists, with two.

Ellie Schmitt turned in six points and four rebounds, which was second on the team in both categories.

From the charity stripe, the Lady Cyclones shot 10-of-18, while the Lady Grizzlies shot 4-for-14.

Little Snake River 69, Southeast 16

On Saturday, the Lady Cyclones faced a tough opponent in 1A’s second-ranked team. Little Snake River jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first eight minutes of action and they continued that roll, heading into intermission with a 30-12 lead. The Lady Rattlers racked up 23 points in the third quarter, compared to Southeast’s four. The Lady Cyclones were blanked in the fourth quarter as Little Snake River cruised to the 69-16 win.

In the loss, Kaci Schmick turned in six of Southeast’s 16 points. Schmitt led the way on the boards, recording eight rebounds, including two off the offensive glass. Ekwall was second on the team with three rebounds, while leading the Lady Cyclones with three assists. Breann Hort turned in two steals to lead Southeast.

Farson-Eden 46, Southeast 44

Southeast closed out the weekend by taking on 1A’s fifth-ranked team in the Lady Pronghorns. Southeast and Farson-Eden were tied at 12 after the first frame. In the second, Farson-Eden added some separation, outscoring the Lady Cyclones 13-5 to head into halftime up 25-17. Southeast began chipping away at the lead in the third, putting up 13 points compared to the Lady Pronghorns’ 11 and they continued to rally, gaining a 14-10 advantage in the fourth, but it was just short, with Southeast falling 46-44.

Schmitt was one of two Lady Cyclones with double-figures, piling up 13 points. She finished the night with a double-double, including 15 rebounds, which she paired with six steals. Schmick turned in 11 points as well.

Ekwall was the second-leading rebounder for Southeast, hauling in nine boards. Whitney Foos paced the team in assists, with four.

The Lady Cyclones sit at 2-4 on the season, with an upcoming game Thursday on the road against Bayard, Neb. at 5 p.m. Southeast then hits the road to play in the Big Horn Invitational on Jan. 5-6.
