BUFFALO – The Southeast High School volleyball team won three straight matches Friday and Saturday to qualify for the upcoming Wyoming Class 1A State Volleyball Tournament as the No. 1 seed from the East Regional Tournament in Buffalo.

Lady Cyclones earn No. 1 seed for state

BUFFALO – The Southeast High School volleyball team won three straight matches Friday and Saturday to qualify for the upcoming Wyoming Class 1A State Volleyball Tournament as the No. 1 seed from the East Regional Tournament in Buffalo.

The Lady Cyclones defeated Midwest and Upton to reach the championship match, and Southeast swept Hulett to earn the top seed.

On Friday afternoon, the Lady Cyclones rolled to a 3-0 (25-8, 35-14, 25-2) sweep of the Midwest Lady Oilers.

Junior Sydney Anderson led the Southeast offensive attack with 12 kills, while senior Jordan Stoddard added eight. As a team, the Lady Cyclones tallied seven serving aces, as junior Brenna Herring and sophomore Baylie Booth had three apiece, while Anderson had the other. Herring also dished out a team-high 13 assists, while Booth had six.

On the defensive side of the night, Stoddard tallied three blocks, while Anderson had two blocks and seven digs.

In the semifinal round, the Lady Cyclones fell to Upton 25-16 in the opening set, but Southeast rebounded with 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 wins to defeat the Lady Bobcats, 3-1.

Herring led the team with 11 kills, while Stoddard added nine and Anderson eight. Booth had a team-high two aces and 17 assists. Herring added eight assists.

Stoddard led the team with four blocks, while Herring, Anderson and junior Shelby Ekwall had one apiece. The Lady Cyclones also had five players in double-figures with digs. Booth tallied 15, while sophomore Sasha Haines had 14. Anderson recorded 12, while senior Grace Desmond and Stoddard had 10 each.

The win advanced Southeast to the championship match against the Hulett Lady Red Devils.

In the previous two meetings between the teams during the regular season, the Lady Cyclones scored two wins, and the third matchup was no different.

Southeast swept the Lady Red Devils, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) to lock up the East’s top seed for the state tournament.

Stoddard led the team with 10 kills, while Herring and Anderson had eight apiece. Desmond had five. As a team, the Lady Cyclones had 10 blocks, including a team-high four from Desmond and three from Herring. Stoddard recorded a team-high 17 courtesy of Stoddard, while Anderson had 15. Herring handed out 16 assists, while Booth had 13.

Southeast (19-10) opens the state tournament in Casper on Thursday at 3 p.m. against the West Regional’s No. 4-seeded Saratoga Lady Panthers (13-13) at the Wyoming Ford Center.
