TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School girls’ basketball team wrapped up the 2021-22 regular season with a 54-38 win over the Rawlins Lady Outlaws on Friday evening.

“We didn’t play our best of the season, but we took care of business to finish the quad undefeated,” THS coach Jeff Halley said. “I think we were all looking past this one a little toward regionals and didn’t do the little things we normally do to be quite as sharp. Even with too many turnovers and poor shooting, our defense did their job and we got a good win on the road.”

The Lady Blazers jumped out to a 17-5 lead after a quarter of play, extending it to 29-13 by halftime.

Coming out of the break, Torrington’s lead reached as many as 20 at 39-19 heading into the fourth quarter.

Over the final eight minutes, Rawlins doubled its points, only to close the gap to the visiting Lady Blazers by four in the fourth.

As a team, the Lady Blazers shot 28% (19-of-69) from the floor.

Senior Reece Halley led the team with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while senior AJ West added 12 points. Senior Sierra Allen also tallied 11 rebounds. Allen and senior Mattie Jones chipped in six points each.

“We will have to bring our best game this week at regionals, but I really like how our bracket is set up for us to make a return trip to state,” Halley said. “Hopefully we will get it started off on the right foot against Thermopolis.”

The Lady Blazers (12-9) open the 3A East Regional Tournament against a Lady Bobcat (5-16) team which Torrington defeated 41-23 back on Dec. 10 at the Burns Winter Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Burns on Thursday, March 3.
